My adventures with the DMV

So, I have lived here 18 months and decided not to get a Utah drivers license until my Michigan one expired. So, it did on my birthday. They changed the law in Utah so you have to have all of these stupid forms and what not. I go to the West Valley one the day before my birthday, thinking that would be plenty of time. I go, wait in lane for about an hour, and get up there for them to tell me "well, this probably is a real birth certificate but we can't risk it." Yeah, I was mad but there was nothing I could do about it.

Mom then had to drive to Wyandotte to get me another one, and then mail it out to me. I drove a week with an expired license. And of course there were cops EVERYWHERE I went so I had to be extra careful.

Finally got the new birth certificate. Try number 2. West Valley again. No parking anywhere. And the line was out the door. I decided to try it anyway, parked at a restaurant, and went in. Someone said they had been waiting for an hour and barely had moved. And this was just to get the number to wait in line again! I decided to just leave. Called Tina to get the address of the Draper one.

Try 3. Went to Draper. Waited in line for an hour, got my number, waited in lane again for another hour for my number to be called, finally got up there. Sat for 5 minutes while she filled out the rest of the paperwork, and finally went to go take the written test. Thought it was smooth sailing from here, right? Oh, wrong. So very wrong. Got 17 out of 25 right. Failed. Wait in a line some more, can take it again. Great, right? No. Not so great. She said I needed at 75% to pass, so only one more right! So good, easy. Have the book, will just take my time this time and i'll pass, right? Yeah, got 18 out of 25. Failed again. Wait in line some more for them to tell me you can only take it twice in one day so I would have to come back again. To the draper one, but I didn't have to wait in line! Yay, I thought. But it wasn't done yet..

Try 4. Had to work Tuesday so I went back up on Weds morning, early so it wouldnt waste my day. Take the test, get 19 out of 25 right, here I thought finally I passed but no.. i see it flashing at me saying I did not pass again. At this point, i'm just annoyed. The guy tells me "no, you need 80% to pass." I said that they told me I needed 75%. He was very rude to me and told me I would need to start ALL OVER AGAIN. Wait in the line, get a new picture, show all my stuff again, pay the fee. I'm fine paying the fee again, but I shouldnt have to wait in line again. I walked out because I didn't have any of my stuff with me. I'm pissed at this point. I call Tina and yell and am annoyed. What question did I get wrong? Where in Utah do the mile markers start? North, South, East or West. What the heck does that have to do with anything? Seriously! Watch out for that question! STUPID!

Try 5. I decide at that point I'm too angry to go back that day. But I find out they are open on Friday so I decide that's when I'll go back. My boss's wife had to go get her license and she called and found out what good times were to go, so I planned to wake up at 7:30 and be out the door by 8:30 to get there by 9. That worked. Tina was wide awake so she decided to pack up Spencer and go with me. Get there at 9, and there is maybe a 10 minute wait to get my number, yay that's much better. But they didnt even look at my stuff. They said i didn't need it since I had the paper that said I had already gone through off of this. At that point all I can do is laugh because the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. But that sums up the government! Anyway, she says it's going to be about a 40 minute wait. That is MUCH better then the 3 hours I was there before.

Wait, and wait, and not long passes before my number gets called. Get all the set, pay again, and go to take the test. Take my time a little bit on this one, try to look for the answers more. MUCH easier this time. Ended up getting 23 out of 25. I finally passed! I now have a Utah drivers license. Yay me. Glad that's over.

Was it worth it? I'm not sure. Now all I need is to get my car in my name and I can officially become a resident. Although according to the state I am a Utah resident, it's just the colleges don't think so.

I wasn't going to tell this story because everyone says how easy the test was so it kinda makes me look stupid, but I thought I would share my embarrassment with everyone. My advice is to not go to the West Valley DMV, but go to the Draper and read the book while you are waiting in the long line. Don't waste a tank of gas, and three days of your life for a Utah drivers license.

PS. My picture sucks, too! They zoom in WAY TOO MUCH!

New Year, New Me.

Not really. I could say I want to lose weight or be a happier person. Or more positive. But really, aren't those things we should be striving for everyday anyway? I have decided this year to take my life into my own hands. Which, is shocking, I know since I'm such a control freak. But that's more of a control over what people see and don't see. If I want something, I'm going to do what I can do get it. I'm going to be more out going and not so weird. Well, maybe not the weird part because let's just be honest here. I'm a little weird. I can't change that. It's a part of me.

This "new" me comes at the perfect time though since I am now the YSA Sunday School teacher. Thankfully, I teach with someone so I only have to teach every other week. But still. I am teaching my peers and that scares the crap out of me. I've taught Primary and I've even taught the youth, but that's easy. I give them scriptures and they read the whole time. Or I give them crayons and they color the whole time. Most the people there have been baptized a lot longer than I have and frankly, know a lot more than I do. But they don't talk. So that makes things interesting.. and short. Thankfully I can ramble on about anything. And ramble more when I'm nervous (shocking, I know.). I know I will be fine and it will be good. But yeah.

Never say "I don't like going to Sunday School because everything they talk about goes over my head" even IF you think it's only to your brother in law because you will, within a week, get called to TEACH Sunday school. I now know that first hand. That Lord, he has got a sense of humor, that's for sure!

Christmas was good. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with the Dillenbecks. Which is always amusing. Dylan got clothes and didn't throw a fit so I say it was a success! I got almost half of my life. A nice robe and Wii Fit but I sadly did not get the husband, or a date. And I decided I didn't need a Zune. I'm still working on the date thing, but it's not going well when my ward only has like two single guys.

I really need a singles ward. Apparently they are supposed to start one soon, but who knows. Everything is just rumors. And I am keeping my mouth shut on what callings I would want or would not want. I've learned my lesson on that one!

Work is good. I had the week of Christmas off and only worked Monday and Tuesday this week. We are actually getting a lot more patients and we think it should pick up a lot more now that Christmas is over. Which means my hours could be changing or hopefully I could be working more. Most the time I just sit there looking for something to do. Recently I did the website. Which was fun. I also do the newsletter layout and business cards and clean. It's nice to be able to be creative and do different things. I'm thankful for that since the phone doesn't ring very often. Case and point: The other day the phone rang and I jumped.

And just to please Mom, here is a picture of Spencer. And my clean room!

Snow Day

I took a snow day today. I hate driving in the snow, and Tina doesn't like me driving in the snow, so I took the day off. Thankfully we aren't busy and really, I'm not missing much. Anyway, so we got Spencer all bundled up and went out and played in the snow. He liked it til be fell on his face and didn't stop crying until we put him in his PJs.
